Fungicides are a vital element in the gardener’s armamentarium, here in the Ozarks. Our summers can be very hot and humid, an environment in which fungal diseases thrive. Roses are particularly susceptible to black spot and other fungal diseases. Fortunately, we now have products that are environmentally safe. The easiest and safest product to apply is copper soap, although it must be applied frequently. Wettable sulfur applications are effective, as well. Finally, systemic fungicides are the most efficacious, as they are actually taken up into the plant and give longer protection. However, not all products are safe for every situation, particularly with fruits and vegetables. Talk to our staff and let us guide you to those products that are safe for edibles.
